Before Spring arrives this Friday at 6:45 p.m., and even before Mud Season gets under way, New Englanders have to endure the Season of the Pothole — as we are painfully aware of this year.
In keeping with the annual appearance of this trying period that tests our talent for nimble handling of the steering wheel to dodge those pesky chasms in the pavement and to vault the rolling frost heaves, we invite our readers to send us photos of worst pothole they’ve encountered – be sure to include the location. We’ll post the ones judged by an impartial panel of pothole afionados to be the most dramatic. And to those who enter potholes of exceptional depth, size and shape, The Edge will present a special prize: a handmade stressball. Send your photos to news@theberkshireedge.com.

To start things off, we offer the photo above sent to us today by Steve Meyerowitz of Great Barrington. He included the following message: “I thought you would like this pothole photo. The location is opposite Yarmosky Dental and Macony Pediatrics on Maple Avenue [Route 23 in Great Barrington]. It cost me a new tire.”
And he was not happy, as the accompanying selfie attests: “Here’s a picture of me with my ‘angry face’ on because I had to put change the tire under cold and dirty conditions. (It was either that or a tow truck!).”
And he added that he had sent us the photos from an airplane. Hopefully, he is winging his way out of Pothole Paradise, and a warmer clime. At least, that’s what those of us who remain here would like to imagine.
