Lenox — Roger Daltrey. “Tommy.” The Boston Pops Orchestra. How could anyone have possibly guessed, when the Who released “Tommy” nearly 50 years ago, that such an improbable combination of songs and musicians would appear together onstage in the most improbable of venues–Tanglewood? (Not even “Tommy’s” composer, Pete Townshend, could have guessed, I’ll wager.) Yet on June 15, 2018, a crowd of graying 60-somethings will witness this rare alignment of stars and, for many, it will no doubt trigger vivid flashbacks of the heady years following the Summer of Love (Not to worry: Tanglewood keeps plenty of emergency medical technicians on hand for just this sort of situation).
Other newly announced popular artist dates:
- Showman and songwriter extraordinaire Andy Grammer on June 22
- The venerable Steve Miller Band with talkbox pioneer Peter Frampton on July 2

And while we’re at it, here’s a recap of previously announced Tanglewood 2018 popular artist concerts:

- Banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on June 29

- Berkshires favorite son James Taylor on July 3 & 4
