Popular artist concerts for Tanglewood 2018 includes rock opera ‘Tommy’

Tickets are now on sale for the 2018 Tanglewood pop artist concerts.

Lenox — Roger Daltrey. “Tommy.” The Boston Pops Orchestra. How could anyone have possibly guessed, when the Who released “Tommy” nearly 50 years ago, that such an improbable combination of songs and musicians would appear together onstage in the most improbable of venues–Tanglewood? (Not even “Tommy’s” composer, Pete Townshend, could have guessed, I’ll wager.) Yet on June 15, 2018, a crowd of graying 60-somethings will witness this rare alignment of stars and, for many, it will no doubt trigger vivid flashbacks of the heady years following the Summer of Love (Not to worry: Tanglewood keeps plenty of emergency medical technicians on hand for just this sort of situation).

Other newly announced popular artist dates:

The Steve Miller Band

And while we’re at it, here’s a recap of previously announced Tanglewood 2018 popular artist concerts:

Stephen Stills
  • Banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on June 29

THEATER REVIEW: ‘Shucked’ plays at Proctors Theatre in Schenectady, N.Y., through March 23

“Shucked” sounds as though it will be a hokey, silly show, but instead it turns out to be a remarkably charming two and a half hours of light musical theater.
