POEM: Small things

...small things alight bring meaning to life.

Editor’s note: Our poet tells us it was Judy Isacoff’s essay on Enchantment that reminded her of this poem in her own collection.

the breath of a newborn
underbelly of a titmouse
breeze wafting through a spring evening
footprints packed in snow
a song recalling memories of love
gold finches perched like ornaments on tall trees
a hand held in comfort
a phone call anticipated
the first snowfall
and the last.
stones illuminated on brook’s edge
a glass of champagne
a toast to happiness
the smell of coffee
filling morning with promise
a robin’s blue egg
clear blue sky
blue ocean wide
a heart beating
friendly greeting
laughter pealing.
a kiss goodnight
bird in flight
small things alight
bring meaning to life.
