Pittsfield resident sentenced for 2022 Berkshire Bank robbery

The robbery took place at the 66th West Street branch of Berkshire Bank in Pittsfield in November 2022.

Pittsfield — On Monday, Aug. 12, in Berkshire Superior Court, Judge John A. Agostini sentenced Louis Hoffman, 34, to a two to six year prison sentence for unarmed robbery.

According to the Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office, Hoffman was sentenced to State Prison after he plead guilty to the charge.

On November 20, 2022, Hoffman went into the 66th West Street branch of Berkshire Bank to attempt a robbery.

Hoffman passed a note to the teller demanding to give him all of the $100 and $50 bills in her cash box, and that the teller should not include any dye packets.

The teller handed him the money, then Hoffman said twice “Do you think I am stupid? Everything in the drawer.”

Hoffman then proceeded to flee without the money and he was arrested shortly afterwards, admitting to the attempting robbery after he was arrested.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Hoffman has a criminal history of robbery. In 2017 Hoffman committed a violent armed robbery where he used a gun and injured a gas station attendant.
