Pittsfield resident arrested on multiple firearm related charges

Zyir Rasheed, 25, was arrested on multiple charges after attempting to flee officers from the Pittsfield Police Department.

Pittsfield — Resident Zyir Rasheed, 25, was arrested by the city’s Police Department on multiple charges on Monday, July 28.

According to a press release written by Lieutenant John Soules, on July 28 at 1 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Street and Melville Street for a report of a man with a firearm.

Officers conducted an area search and discovered Rasheed involved in an argument at Cumberland Farms on First Street.

According to Soules, the gas station was a short distance from the initial call for officers and Rasheed matched the description of the suspect.

Responding officers gave commands to Rasheed but he ignored them and attempted to flee.

Officers gained control of Rasheed and found he was in possession of a loaded handgun with a round in the chamber.

Rasheed does not possess a Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms, and he was subsequently charged with multiple criminal offenses, including a subsequent offence of Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Being an Armed Career Criminal.

He is expected to be arraigned today at Berkshire County Superior Court.
