Pittsfield Police Department arrests 19-year-old carrying loaded firearm

The arrest was made by the department's Anti-Crime Unit

Pittsfield — The city’s Police Department arrested a 19-year-old carrying an illegal firearm, which was loaded, on Wednesday, March 19.

According to a press release issued by the department, at around 7:15 p.m. on March 19, members of the department’s Anti-Crime Unit were working plain-clothed patrol on North Street when they observed a 19-year-old male carrying a bottle of liquor.

A second male, also 19 years old, was observed carrying a firearm.

The officers tried to confront the suspects, but the two individuals attempted to evade the officers.

The officers eventually apprehended the two male suspects.

During a search of the suspects, officers discovered that one possessed a fully loaded handgun, which had one round in the chamber and nine rounds in an attached magazine.

The officers subsequently placed both suspects under arrest.

The department is charging the first suspect with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, and Possessing Ammunition without a License.

The second suspect is charged with Possessing Alcohol while being Under 21.

The department did not identify the names of the suspects in the press release.
