Pittsfield Police arrest Berkshire Bank robbery suspect

No one was injured in the robbery that took place on Monday, July 21, at the Berkshire Bank branch at 66 West Street in Pittsfield.

Pittsfield — The city’s Police Department arrested James Scales IV, 38, on Monday, July 21, in connection with an armed robbery.

According to a press release written by Lieutenant John Soules, officers responded to the Berkshire Bank located at 66 West Street at 9:03 a.m. on Monday for a report of an armed robbery.

Scales reportedly passed a note to a bank teller and brandished a knife. He fled the bank with an unspecified amount of cash.

An investigation led to Scales’ arrest, and he was subsequently charged with Armed Robbery While Masked.

According to Soules, additional charges may be forthcoming.

Scales is expected to be arraigned in Berkshire District Court on Tuesday, July 22.
