Phyllis Elizabeth Porter Gull Carto, 92, formerly of Pittsfield, passed away Dec. 10, 2017, in Boise, Idaho. Phyllis was born May 15, 1925, in Great Barrington. She was raised in Pittsfield and attended school there. She then worked at Eaton Paper for many years until moving to Arizona. Before leaving Pittsfield, she married her first husband, Dominic Gull, in 1966; he passed away in 1977. While visiting California in 1987, she met her second husband, Robert Carto, and they were married in Arizona in 1988. Robert also predeceased her. Phyllis lived in Arizona up until the last nine months of her life, when, because of failing health, she moved to Boise to be near her niece.
Phyllis is survived by her nieces Joyce Schram, Jean Snow and Elaine Miller as well as her nephews Ted and Bruce Snow, her great-niece Kim Melinsky, and several great-great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her husbands, she was predeceased by her sister Gertrude Snow and brothers Arthur and Kenneth Porter. Phyllis also was predeceased by her nephew Richard Snow, great-niece Elizabeth Schram and great-great nephew Garrett Schram.
A graveside service will be held Friday, Sept. 28, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery, 90 Stockbridge Road, Great Barrington. The omission of flowers is requested.
