Philip Knowles, 92, of Devonshire Estates

A memorial service celebrating the life of Philip Knowles will be held at a later date.

Philip Knowles, 92, of Devonshire Estates in Lenox, died Thursday January 19 at Mount Carmel Care Center.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on February 15, 1930, the son of Arthur and Dorothea Worman Knowles, he attended local schools, earned a bachelor’s degree from Amherst College, and later his MBA degree.

Mr. Knowles was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served for four years during the Korean War and, following his active service, the Navy Reserves for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Commander.

He was a Computer Manager for Bristol Myers Co. in their Clairol division for many years, retiring in 1989.

Philip is survived by his wife, Eileen Breu Knowles of Lenox, whom he married April 13, 1991; his children, James Knowles (Debra) of Gainesville, Ga., Dr. Sally Knowles of West Hartford, Conn., Gregory Knowles (Donna) of Norwalk, Conn., and Jeffery Knowles of Crownsville, Md.; his stepchildren including Kathleen Donohue (Michael Brown) of Pipersville, Pa., Nancy Rypkema (Kenneth) of Rensselaerville, N.Y., June Wolfe (James) of Sheffield, and Patrick Donohue (Kristen) of Chalfont, Pa.; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
