Peter Ambro, born on October 1, 1955, in New York City, the son of the late Peter and Henrietta (Leith) Ambro, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, with friends by his side after a long battle with medical issues. He was a beloved member of his community and will be missed dearly.
Peter was well-known as a long-time bartender at The Old Mill and later at John Andrews Restaurant in South Egremont. Until two years ago, he could be found sharing his warm spirit behind the sales desk at Plaza Package in Great Barrington. A talented chef and artist, Peter had a passion for creativity that shone through in all his endeavors.
In his younger years, Peter was an avid bicyclist, skier and golfer, and he cherished his love for music, with a particular fondness for jazz. He had a wonderful sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. As a proud godfather to his two goddaughters, Lindsay Ide Lynn and Kristin Ide, he was a guiding light in their lives.
While Peter leaves no living relatives, he is survived by a multitude of friends who will remember him fondly for his kindness, laughter, and the vibrant spirit he brought to every gathering.
Peter was predeceased by his sister Leith Ellen Ambro.
A celebration of Peter’s life will be announced at a later date.
