Pamela Burlington Somers died in the early morning of January 22, 2021 in New York City following a short illness. Ms Somers was born in New York on August 10th, 1943.

Pamela attended Rosehaven School in Rockleigh, N.J.; her boarding school years were spent at the School of the Holy Child in Suffern, N.Y; she attended Rosemont College and graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in linguistics. While Pam had a great ear for language, she was also a talented pianist, and her little sister Hilary remembers her practicing Beethoven’s “Moonlight Sonata” endlessly!
In 1965 Pamela entered the field of computing and systems analysis — a profession which was often closed to women. Over the years Ms Somers served a wide range of clients ranging from; Holland American Cruise Lines, the City of New York, helping set up their 911 system, and computer security firms.
Ms. Somers loved looking over the East River from her 32nd floor apartment at 20 Waterside Plaza and hosted annual 4th of July Fireworks parties. Always independent, Ms Somers was proud of her service as an auxiliary policewoman and wore her uniform and badge with pride.
A fierce New Yorker, Pam spent her later years devoted to protecting and feeding grateful squirrels and writing about them in a newsletter.
The eldest daughter of Arthur and Alice Somers of Rockleigh N.J., Pamela spent her summers at “Rock Ridge” where the family summered for four generations in Berkshire County on Monterey’s Lake Garfield. Pamela is survived by her sole remaining sibling, Hilary Somers Deely of Stockbridge, Mass, and beloved nieces and nephews: Hilary Somers of Palo Alto, Calif., Seneca Spurling of San Francisco; Mary Sedgwick Deely of Atwater Village, Calif.; and Philip Lawrence Somers Deely of Kona, Hawaii, and many cousins.
Ms. Somers will be memorialized on the Somers Family Website which she designed. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Urban Utopia Wildlife Rehabilitation.
