Olindo “Lindy” J. Zerbato, 96, of Housatonic died Saturday, March 19, 2022 at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox.
Lindy was born in “Little Italy” in Lee, on August 7, 1925, the son of Angelo and Adele (Giardi) Zerbato. He attended Lee schools. Lindy worked for Lee Marble, Lee Lime, Smith Paper, Peter J. Switzer Paper, and Kimberly Clark Paper from 1943 until his retirement in June of 1986. He was a shop steward for 25 years in the paper mills.
Lindy was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, the former All Saints Church in Housatonic, and Holy Name. He enjoyed playing baseball and played semi-pro for Lee Sons of Italy, played in the towns of Stockbridge and Great Barrington, and was signed to play for the NY Giants in 1942. Lindy was a member of Spinc Association in Lee and vice president of Spinc Credit Union. He was a huge NY Yankees fan since Joe DiMaggio started playing for them.
Lindy’s wife, Helen (Boldyga) Zerbato, whom he married June 14, 1952 at All Saint’s Church in Housatonic, predeceased him on November 27, 2020. For the past several years, Lindy’s caregivers have been his sister Mary Marzotto and his nephew Richard Kelly. Lindy is survived by his sister, Mary Marzotto of West Stockbridge, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife Helen, Lindy was predeceased by his sister Beatrice Kelly and brothers Mario, Guido, and Nello Zerbato.
Funeral services for Olindo “Lindy” J. Zerbato will be held Friday, March 25 at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish in Housatonic, with Reverend William P. Murphy, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Bridget’s Cemetery in Housatonic. Family will receive friends Friday, March 25 from 8:30–9:30 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Lindy’s memory may be made to Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
