Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston positively identified remains found in Lee as those of New York teacher Meghan Marohn

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston has identified the remains found in Lee on Sept. 1 as those of Meghan Marohn. Due to the condition of the remains, the cause of death remains unclear, but the office states that no foul play appears to be involved.

Berkshire County — According to a press release shared with The Berkshire Edge by the Berkshire District Attorney’s office, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Boston has identified the remains found in Lee on September 1 as those of Meghan Marohn. The conclusion was determined through dental records and a forensic anthropological examination that showed that the remains are the same sex, ancestry, and stature of Marohn. According to the press release, however the office was unable to determine the cause and manner of Morohns’ death due to the condition of the remains. The office asserts, however, that none of the evidence collected thus far suggests foul play.

Morohn’s family reported her missing on March 29, and the Lee Police found her car abandoned at Longcope Park that same day. Lee Police subsequently launched a search for Morohn in coordination with Lee Fire, the Massachusetts State Police Lee Barracks, Massachusetts State Police K9 and Airwing, Massachusetts State Police Special Emergency Response Team, Berkshire County Sheriff’s Office, Albany County Sheriff’s Department, and the Berkshire Mountain Search and Rescue Team.

More than five months later, on September 1, a civilian located the remains in a heavily wooded area in Lee. Lee Police, the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police Special Emergency Response Team, and the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services all responded to the scene.

The examination of Morohn’s remains did not find any signs of pre-death trauma but did reveal the presence of THC and organic products of decomposition. According to the press release, it is common in these kinds of cases for the examiner to be unable to determine the cause of death. According to the press release, “Lee Police, the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, and Bethlehem, N.Y. Police continue to receive and follow up on leads and are awaiting the result of further State Police Crime Lab forensic testing.”
