Norton W. Fletcher, 95, of Sandisfield died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at Lee Healthcare. He was born May 21, 1923, in Lawrence, Long Island, New York, the son of William and Edith (Duthie) Fletcher. Norton was a graduate of the Lawrence High School class of 1942. After graduating, Norton proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Norton worked as a chef at the New Boston Inn from 1946 to 1949; as a private chef for Mrs. Ethel Perkins from 1951 to 1962 in Sandisfield and Lawrence; and for 15 years as a chef at the A. Holly Patterson Home for the Aged in Uniondale, New York, retiring in 1977. Norton summered in Sandisfield since 1927 but moved there full-time in 1977. Norton enjoyed drawing and playing the organ. He was a former president of the Sandisfield Historical Society and a member of the American Legion Post 456 in Sandisfield where he served as historian and service officer. Norton’s wife Julia (Grosse) Fletcher, whom he married May 26, 1962, in Cedarhurst, New York, predeceased him Aug. 5, 2011. Norton is survived by nephews Steve Reilly and Robert MacKenzie as well as several cousins.
A graveside service for Norton W. Fletcher will be held Monday, Oct. 15, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Sandisfield Center Cemetery.
