North Adams tree lighting a success

In her letter, Roslyn Cummings, interim director of tourism and public events for North Adams, writes: "This is an event that many in North Adams look forward to each year. It brings out a sense of community during the holiday season which is comforting and joyous."

To the Editor:

Although the weather did not behave, the North Adams Tree Lighting did prove to be an enjoyable event for those who attended.

Speaking of tree lightings, we would like to give a big thank you to Leon and Pat Lescarbo and Bob Senger for donating two fantastic trees to the downtown; to Mr. and Mrs. Clause who made their annual visit gifting 300 gift bags to the children who attended; to the First Baptist Church for keeping us warm with hot cocoa, and for having their Sanctuary Choir sing holiday carols; to Mass MoCA for providing sound; National Grid for their donation; Leon and Maryann King for their support; Berkshire Bank, Cascade School supplies, and Big Y for their generous goodie bag donations.

Thanks also to all of the volunteers, and city workers who have put so much time and effort into making this event happen, and into making our city look so beautiful for the holidays.

The lighting was also graced with the help of the Berkshire Battalion who aided in lighting the median on Main Street, took pictures with community members, and handed out a number of kids tickets good for any hockey game.

This is an event that many in North Adams look forward to each year. It brings out a sense of community during the holiday season which is comforting and joyous. Finally, thank you to all of those who attended this year’s tree lighting. We hope you enjoyed your evening.

The other big lie is blaming inflation on Joe Biden

I hope this analysis will help those who would like to fault Trump or Biden/Harris for recent inflation to think again.

Say no to the ‘experimental demonstration forest’ concept for The Notch Forest and Bellows Pipe Trail

Foisting an "experimental demonstration forest" concept onto The Notch Forest and Bellows Pipe Trail is neither respectful nor appropriate. Pure and simple, the logging plan is board-room derived, an empty, feel-good concept.

Time for sober voices on the residential exemption

How about we avoid ginning up opposition in the most divisive of terms, knowing full well that elected leaders are hesitant to embrace something that might be divisive? It’s a self-fulfilling way of getting your way.
