Great Barrington — October 2016 was a month of contrasts. The first 21 days continued the year’s warm and dry weather, while the last 10 days were cool and wet. And it was that cool and wet that prevented the month from being the driest October since 1965.
As a result, it’s the first time this year, a monthly rainfall has exceeded the average, thanks to a rainy 48 hours two weekends ago when we received nearly four inches. This year’s October was almost an inch and a quarter greater than average.
As far as temperatures were concerned, this October finished 2 degrees above the 51 year average with a high of 61 which was the fifth highest and a low of 43 which was sixth highest. It isn’t often you get above 80 in October but we did on the 18th when we hit a record high of 83.
It will be interesting to see if the cool and wet continues in November to ease our drought conditions.
