Nick Diller’s monthly weather summary: March 2017, colder and wetter

Temperatures can be very warm and then very cold. Sometimes big snowstorms can occur. March 2017 was like that.

Great Barrington — Sometimes March can be an up and down month. Temperatures can be very warm and then very cold. Sometimes big snowstorms can occur. March 2017 was like that.

At the beginning of the month very warm weather. Then came an arctic cold wave with a snow squall and colder readings. Finally, the big snowstorm that dropped 16 to in some places over two feet of snow to the Northeast.

When the month came to an end yesterday, our averages for the month looked like this:

We ended up with an average high temperature of 40 and a low of 31 for a mean of 30.5.                                         The precipitation totals were rain 2.24″, added snow melt 2.84″

So, the month turned out to be four degrees colder and wetter than normal thanks to two nor’easters and two Arctic fronts. The month’s mean temperature of 30.5 was the eighth coldest in the now 52-year history.

By the looks of things, cooler than average weather will continue for at least another week.
