Nick Diller weather summary: November 2017, drier with near-normal temperatures; early December snowfall

It's interesting to note that the daily high temps in November 2017 were warmer than average while the lows were colder.

November was drier than average, with temperatures near season norms.

For the eighth month this year, precipitation fell below average. But so far, we are around 4 inches ahead of the drought year of 2016, but 3 inches below the now 52-year average. 2017’s lack of rainfall will make this November the fourth driest.

That being said, on Saturday, December 9, the season’s first snowfall: Total snow accumulation was 6 inches even, a nice powdery snow with little water content. The rule of thumb is one inch of snow produces around a tenth of an inch of water. This storm produced only half of that: .29 inches

This snow should give the ski areas a good start.

Now on to temperatures for November: There were no extremes for the month, finishing half a degree warmer than average. It’s interesting to note that the daily high temps were warmer than average while the lows were colder. But all in all, a pleasant month that gave me time to complete outdoor chores. December will start out fairly mild but weather people tell me that, by the middle of December, more seasonable weather will be with us. I can hardly wait.
