Nick Diller weather summary: May 2018, dry and warm

The month finished as the fourth warmest and ninth driest in the now 53 years of weather recordkeeping.

Great Barrington — Warm and dry was May. The month finished as the fourth warmest and ninth driest in the now 53 years of weather recordkeeping. The average mean temperature came in at 62.5, which is five degrees above average. But there were no really hot days: Just 10 of the 31 days registered 80 or above. However, the mild minimum daily temperatures, which were five degrees higher than average, were the reason for the milder month.

Not much rain fell in May. The 2.34 inches was over 2 inches below the average, which made May the ninth driest and the first month with below-average precipitation this year.

Does this mean a dry, drought-like summer? Only time will tell.

Have a wonderful June.
