Great Barrington – We almost had a white Christmas. For the snow lovers it was a week of winter white. We skied, went snow shoeing. I had the joy of using my electric snow blower for the first time in deep snow and it worked very well. For the snow lovers in all of us, it was quite a week. Then Ole Man Winter left us. And in came a winter lover’s two worst enemies, RAIN and WARMTH. And the snow went, washed away, gone, like Frosty before he melted away. There was no magic hat this time, only lots of water. A pond in my backyard and the sound of pumps in my basement. Temperatures were more in keeping with Columbus Day than Christmas.
This winter may end up like last winter, a large amount of snow in December and almost nothing the rest of the season.
With the storm of the 16th and 17th along with a few other spurts made this December the seventeenth snowiest and if you discounted the rain on Christmas, the month would have been one of the driest but it brought our total for the year to 47.21” a little below average thanks in part to a dry summer.
This December was the 7th warmest with Christmas day hitting the 60s again, the third time in the last 6 years that has happened.
So now it’s January 1, 2021. Will we ever forget 2020? Probably not!
But for the first time ever hind slight will actually be 2020
Stay well and stay safe.
