HomeLife In the BerkshiresNICK DILLER weather...

NICK DILLER weather summary: August 2019, warm and dry

August was the third straight with much below average rainfall. The rivers and streams are showing it.

I was checking the automated weather station as I have to frequently do to insuring it is clean and running properly to provide as accurate weather figures as possible. Birds who use it as a perch are not potty trained.

The weather data this computerized receiver provides along with a new database that automatically records the information is the main reason I can provide you with the monthly weather info, no matter where in the world I might be.  It’s an amazing piece of technology.

What this station and other stations in the Southern Berkshires told me was something that you may have already suspected, August was a very warm and dry month.

First, the temperatures: An average high of 82, an average low of 58 for a mean reading of 70.

The 21 of the 31 days were above average. But not by much. Only one day hit 90 degrees, August 18th.

Overall, this August was the 6th warmest since we began record keeping in 1965.

And it was the 11th driest finishing with 2.19”. Great Barrington averages 4.2

August was the third straight with much below average rainfall. The rivers and streams are showing it.

So, here we are September. Maybe this new month will be like last September with lots of rain. We will see.

Have a good month.
