Nick Diller: September 2023 weather summary

It was a warmer and much dryer September. Now the question is: Will it continue into much of October?

My favorite type of weather came in September, daytime warmth,
nighttime cool and hardly any rain. That was this September. It made
weather watching and recording easy and it made wrapping up the garden
easy.

I know we can use some rain. Just look at the photo of how low the
Housatonic river is near the Cottage Street Bridge in Great
Barrington. Back in June, the rocks were completely submerged by a
very fast-moving river. I recorded above average rains the first six
months of the year, but as the summer rolled on precipitation
diminished. La Nina starting to come into play? Possibly.

Since the turn of this century, only 2015 had warmer days. And the
month featured 27 days of no rain, thanks to a huge dome of high
pressure pushing the storms away.

So, warmer and much dryer the month was. Now the question is: will
it continue into much of October?

Stay tuned.
