NICK DILLER: July rainfall

As Julys go, most precipitation comes in the form of hit-or-miss showers and thundershowers.

So far for July, the running rainfall total is 2.41 inches, which is about half an inch below average. But as Julys go, most precipitation comes in the form of hit-or-miss showers and thundershowers. Since 1965, July averages about 4.6 inches.

So far we have recorded six days of 90 degrees or above. Add to that five days of upper 80s and dew points in the 60s and 70s with one day when the dew point briefly hit 80, which weather people at the Albany National Weather Service office say does happen about once a decade.

So, while the temps are about average, the humidity is not.

And weather people are predicting more humidity and showers this weekend into next week.

Stay as cool as you can, drink plenty of water and swim in it if you can.
