Mainly fair and pleasant with beautiful sunsets. That was this September. Yes, we measured more rain than last year’s September, seven days versus four. But long stretches of very dry conditions in between.
Still another month of below average rainfall thanks to these domes of high pressure moving into the northeast directing rainstorms to our north. So far, my running total of rainfall is six inches below last year. Our summer total of nearly 13 inches was the 12th driest. We average seven a summer.
And as always, I include September in my summer, because more and more, summer’s warmth lingers through September just like lyrics in the song “Camelot,” making the growing season a little longer.
This September, with 24 days in the month above average and 15 nights above average, made the month’s mean temp 2 degrees warmer overall. That coupled with the low humidity made me think of my father’s description of the climate in Arizona where he retired to.
So, while we are not as dry as in other parts of the Berkshires and the Northeast, we do need rain, but the Climate Prediction Center says October could continue dry.
Well one thing, it will make yard cleanup a lot easier. Have a wonderful October.
