NICK DILLER: A hot August 28
What a hot day! This Aug. 28 has turned out to be the hottest day this century for my weather station in Great Barrington.
A high temperature of 92 at 3:24 p.m. (actually 91.6, which is rounded off to the nearest whole number) coupled with a dew point of 78 brought the heat index to 104.5. But it’s only been in the last few years that dew points have been calculated
Was the Aug. 28 reading a record high? NO! Check out the heat wave of 1998 below:
|26-Aug-98||93||69||CHANGING||0.2||EARLY AM SHOWERS AND LATE AFTERNOON SHOWERS THEN CLEARING|
And this was 1993:
|28-Aug-93||91||64||CHANGING||0.25||STRONG THUNDERSH 2 TO 3PM OTHERWISE PCLOUDY|
By the way, seven years ago on this date, it was the rains of Tropical Storm Irene:

|28-Aug-11||73||58||CHANGING||4.27||T.S. IRENE. RAIN TIL 6P. WINDY CLEARING LATE|
