News briefs: Pipeline forum in Albany; new Greylock branch in Lenox

Public forum: Fracked gas pipeline proposal

Albany, N.Y. — A free informational public forum by Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline about the Northeast Energy Direct project pipeline proposal will be held on Wednesday, September 16 from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church and is sponsored by Save the Pine Bush.

Becky Meier and Bob Connors, co-founders of Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline, will give a PowerPoint presentation about the Northeast Energy Direct gas pipeline proposed by Tennessee Gas, a subsidiary of Kinder Morgan. This pipeline will go through Albany County south of the city. The 1460 psi fracked gas pipeline is proposed to go more than 400 miles from the fracking fields of Pennsylvania through New York, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire before ending in Dracut, Mass. The proposed pipeline will impact many nearby communities in terms of economics, health, safety, and the environment.

Meier and Connors will present information about the pipeline, the process for for permitting, why the gas is not needed, the dangers such a pipeline presents, and what citizens can do to try to stop it. They and other members of Stop NY Fracked Gas Pipeline will be available for a question-and-answer period after the presentation. Prior to the presentation, there will be a vegetarian/vegan lasagna dinner costing $12 for adults and $6 for students.

Greylock to open new branch in Lenox

Pittsfield — Greylock Federal Credit Union has announced it will be opening a new branch in Lenox at 68 Main St. This will be the Greylock’s 11th full-service office, and it is expected to open for business in time for the holidays.

The new branch will be located at the Village Center shopping area near the post office. The branch will offer a full range of services for consumers and businesses including loans, transactions, deposits, and an ATM. Additionally, Greylock announced that it will add six positions to cover staffing for the new branch.
