News Brief: State Sen. Benjamin Downing endorses Adam Hinds

State Sen. Benjamin Downing endorses Adam Hinds

Pittsfield — State Sen. Benjamin B. Downing has announced his endorsement of Democratic candidate Adam Hinds who is seeking the longtime senator’s seat. Downing made the formal decision in January not to run for another term.

Downing cited Hinds’ skills as a convener and coalition-builder in his decision to endorse the Democratic candidate seeking to represent the Berkshire, Hampshire, Franklin and Hampden district: “I’ve seen firsthand Adam’s ability to bring people together to get things done. Whether founding Pittsfield Community Connection to intervene with at-risk youth before they turn to violence or as the executive director of the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition working to create regional strategies to confront addiction, unemployment, and access to health, Adam knows how to take on the tough issues.”

Another factor in Downing’s decision to support the Buckland native’s candidacy was Hinds’ familiarity with facilitating collaboration and dialogue among diverse sets of stakeholders: “Through his experience working on negotiations with the United Nations in the Middle East, Adam has learned and lived the art of negotiation. I know from my own career on Beacon Hill how critical this skill is to success in the legislature.”
