New Marlborough Board of Selectmen needs Daniel Doern

In a letter to the editor, eight New Marlborough residents write, "Dan has shown the ability to navigate complicated matters, explain them in clear language and assess them in a way that benefits all of us."

To the editor:

We are writing to support the candidacy of Dan Doern for selectman.

We live in different parts of town. Some of our families have been here for generations. Some of us were weekenders and now live here full time. Some of us have recently made New Marlborough our home. What we all share is a love for this town and a hope for its future, a future that includes challenges that we will need to join together to address. We think it’s time for a change.

We know Dan to be sensible, thoughtful and caring. He sees all sides of an issue, asks important questions, is not afraid to speak up and seeks solutions to benefit all involved. We have been impressed by the work he has done as the treasurer of the Emergency Services Fund.

Most of all, Dan is a leader who likes to listen. Recently, many new important, urgent issues have confronted our town. Dan has shown the ability to navigate these complicated matters, explain them in clear language and assess them in a way that benefits all of us. We’ve seen his lack of bias, openness to different viewpoints, and respectful and creative way of approaching challenging problems.

He’s proven himself in business as a real estate developer — both owning his own business and managing a region for a large company — by working to help kids learn, in government and now as an architect practicing in Mill River. Combined with his advanced degrees in planning and finance, his experience and skills are what we need right now to help lead our town.

Our town needs new, creative and capable leadership. Dan Doern is the right person for the job. Please vote for Dan on May 14.

Although Lou’s Section 9 chair will be occupied by others in coming seasons, for us who loved him, we will always remember it as the seat of the “Mayor of Tanglewood.”
