News Brief: GB construction update

There will not be work on Monday, May 27, which is Memorial Day, or Thursday, May 30, or Friday, May 31, during the Berkshire International Film Festival.

Downtown construction update for the week of Monday, May 27

Great Barrington — Next week, there will only be work Tuesday, May 28, and Wednesday, May 29. The work will include sidewalk/coal chute modifications on Railroad Street as well as various minor work project-wide.

Work will begin daily at 6 a.m. The streets will be open to traffic, with police officers directing traffic when necessary.

There will not be work on Monday, May 27, which is Memorial Day, or Thursday, May 30, or Friday, May 31, during the Berkshire International Film Festival.

Looking ahead, the tentative schedule for the week of Monday, June 3, is:

  • Sidewalk and curbing on Elm, Railroad and Bridge streets;
  • Parking in the upper Railroad Street parking lot will be restricted at times to allow for installation of new light poles and paving preparations; and
  • Full depth excavation and reclaiming of Church Street near Main Street, which will require a morning closure of part of Church Street.

All sidewalk and curb work should be completed, weather permitting, by Friday, June 14. Paving will occur project-wide the week of Monday, June 17, with some paving and line striping possibly occurring during late-night hours. Substantial completion is scheduled for Sunday, June 30.
