Nancy Lecakis

Born Dec. 20, 1931, in Northampton, Massachusetts, to Lynnwood Earl and Ida Mildred (Taylor) Hatch, she was educated in local schools. Following high school Nancy attended nursing school for a short period of time before marrying James George Lecakis June 28, 1952. She then went on to devoting her time raising her children and being a homemaker. Her daughter states that “mom put her all into raising her children and being there for them and her grandchildren.”

Nancy enjoyed many things in life that included crocheting, watching and following the Red Sox, and crossword puzzles; she loved 10-pin bowling and was a member of a bowling league at one time. She also loved to go antiquing both in Maine and in Florida with her daughter. Nancy was also a member of the D.A.V. Woman’s Auxiliary and sang in the choir at Old Parish Church in Sheffield, Massachusetts, as well as participating in many fundraisers. Active in her community, Nancy assisted with the local elections for many years.

Nearly 20 years ago, Nancy moved to Maine to be closer to her nearest family member, which was her son, Tom. Her daughter, Tracy, eventually followed from Florida so that they could all be together.

Predeceased by her parents, husband James, her son James, and granddaughter Stacy Lynn Balint, she is survived by son Tom Lecakis and husband John J. Costello, and daughter Tracy Lecakis-Balint, all of Rockland; sisters Mary Lynn Hall and husband Jay of Vero Beach, Florida, and Paula M. Hatch of Great Barrington, Massachusetts; grandchildren Kayla Marie Balint, Kylie Nan Balint and Stephen G. Balint III; and great-grandchildren Kherington Hupfel and Wesley T. Malecki.

Nancy will be laid to rest privately next to her husband at Sheffield Center Cemetery in Sheffield.
