Mount Washington: Experiencing a Berkshire Gem

'Town Among the Clouds,' which was produced in 2003, about the past and present lives of the uniquely bonded community of Mount Washington still resonates in 2016.

Mount Washington — “Town Among The Clouds” was awarded five stars at the Friday, September 16, movie event at the Mount Washington Town Hall.

Elizabeth Kasevich of the Mount Washington Historical Society (MWHS), the sponsor of the event, opened the evening to a terrific audience of over 30 people. The focus then went to Cory Hines, who was an integral part of this movie effort with the Historical Council and producer Rachel Maskew. Cory informed us about all the elements that came together to complete this project that she humbly declared as “accidental.”

The movie, which was produced in 2003, about the past and present lives of this uniquely bonded community still resonates in 2016. Memories of people and events are beautifully captured and eloquently written and narrated by resident Mary-King Austin.

Lots of conversations followed as a result of the stories, events and people that many of us share. Pat Pyle and Ellis Gross had not watched the movie in many years and were “so delighted to see it again.” Deanne Moskowitz said, “I had such a great time! It was a wonderful evening!”

Several of our local “celebrities” joined us for the movie and recalled the pleasure of participating in the project. Jean Firtch and Jolaine Allen were both forthcoming of their experiences. How can we talk about our town without touching on memories of summers of church fairs or softball games, the best of times?

The MWHS wants to sincerely thank Jeb Rong for his expertise and equipment to make the viewing possible. Jeb was happy to volunteer and help us out.

We want to thank again all those who participated in making this movie. It gave us a great evening. Good job!
