Michael N. Huggins Sr., 75, of Great Barrington

Funeral services for Michael N. Huggins Sr. will be held on Friday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington with Reverend William P. Murphy, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery.

Michael N. Huggins Sr., 75, of Great Barrington, died Sunday, December 7, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with brain cancer. He was born in Pittsfield on August 8, 1950, son of Samuel and Jane (Nelson) Huggins.

Mike grew up in South Lee and was a graduate of Lee High School, class of 1968. He worked for many years painting and wallpapering, starting with Aldo Soldati before starting his own business in 1982, Huggins Painting and Wallpapering which he built with his son Dan. Mike loved his years coaching youth football for the Southern Berkshire Chargers. He then moved up to the high school level at Monument Mountain Regional High School, where he was head coach for many years, winning male high school athletic coach of the year in 2005.

Mike never missed a dance recital or track meet for his daughter Michelle. He also enjoyed hunting with his son Mike Jr., snowshoeing and hiking with his wife Mary, and many wonderful camping trips to Gloucester and Rockport with his beloved family.

Mike is survived by his wife Mary (Sermini) Huggins, whom he married on May 26, 1973, in Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington; his two sons, Michael Huggins Jr. and wife Colleen of Great Barrington and Daniel Huggins and wife Jenna of Great Barrington; his daughter Michelle Bartels and husband Michael of Lee; along with his five grandchildren, Michael Huggins III, Carson Huggins, Adeline Huggins, Margaret Bartels, and Zachary Bartels. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his sister Holly Huggins Rhind.

Funeral services for Michael N. Huggins Sr. will be held on Friday, December 12, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington with Reverend William P. Murphy, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Saint Peter’s Cemetery. In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there are no calling hours.
