Michael Francis Pelle, of Stockbridge, passed away after a short illness, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Bridgeport, Conn., on February 24, 1943.
Michael is survived by his devoted partner Laura Flint; his sister Patricia Watson and brother-in-law Clark of Danbury, Conn.; and his daughters, Heather Rose and son-in-law Kevin of Miami, Fla., and Hilary DiMascio and son-in-law Felice of Simsbury, Conn. He was a proud grandfather to his five grandsons: Grey, Cael, Giovanni, Domenic, and Michael DiMascio, all of Simsbury, Conn. He is also survived by Laura’s daughter Sydney of Brooklyn, N.Y.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Martha, who passed away in 2006.
Michael grew up in Bridgeport and graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1960. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Western Connecticut State University and later completed his master’s degree at Utah State University.
A lifelong learner and adventurer, Michael completed several marathons, including the Boston Marathon. He had a deep passion for world travel and cherished summer visits to Tanglewood. A devoted Syracuse football fan, he proudly held season tickets for many years. Among his most treasured roles was being “Grampy”—he was famous for organizing “Grampy Camp,” special weekends filled with fun and adventure for each of his grandsons, always shared with Laura.
Those who knew Michael describe him as athletic, loving, sentimental, generous to a fault, a self-described curmudgeon with a sharp wit, and someone who cared deeply for animals. He lived by a strong ethical code, stood firmly for the common good, and passionately defended his political beliefs. Above all, he was a truly good man, an incredible father and grandfather, who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Michael was formerly a principal at Searles Middle School and a math teacher at Monument Mountain Regional High School. More recently, he taught computer science at Berkshire Community College and also helped develop math curricula for the Department of Defense schools. He always went the extra mile for his students.
