Memorial Day events in Berkshire County

Berkshire County — The following is a list of Memorial Day parades and events taking place on Monday, May 26. This list may be updated as more information comes into The Berkshire Edge. Check each town’s website for further updates.

Becket: Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. at the North Becket Cemetery, ending at Ballou Park for ceremonies.

Egremont: Parade starts at 12 p.m. at the South Egremont Fire Station at 36 Main Street, going to the Village Green.

Great Barrington: The parade will start at 11 a.m. at Mason Library at 231 Main Street and go on to Town Hall.

Housatonic: 10 a.m. at the firehouse and proceeds down Main Street to the Housy Dome, down Pleasant Street, and to the Housatonic Cemetery where there will be a Memorial Day program.

Lee: Parade starts at 10 a.m. down Main Street, with a ceremony at the Fairmount Cemetery at Greylock Street. The parade is sponsored by the town’s VFW.

Lenox: Parade begins at 12 p.m. at the Church on the Hill/United Church of Christ at 169 Main Street, before proceeding to the town’s War Monument.

Pittsfield: The city’s annual Memorial Day procession will begin at 9 a.m., rain or shine.

For those participating, the lineup will take place at 8:45 a.m. at the intersection of Fenn and Allen streets. The group will proceed to North Street and head north to Wahconah Street and then to Pittsfield Cemetery.

A ceremony will follow at the cemetery, with opening remarks from Mayor Peter Marchetti followed by keynote speaker Woody Vaspra, Berkshire Veterans’ Coalition Commander.

The master of ceremonies is Jim Clark, director of Veterans’ Services for Central Berkshire County, and the officer of the day is Bobby Dassett, commander of the Dalton American Legion Post #155. The event will include a reading of the names of Pittsfield veterans who passed away over the past year.

Stockbridge: Meet at the Congregational Church at 10:45 a.m. Cemetery ceremonies, including benediction and “Taps” at both town cemeteries, will take place starting at 11 a.m.

All parade participants are asked to meet at 12 p.m. at the Town Offices. The parade will take place at 12:15 p.m. and go down Main Street.

A memorial program will take place at the Congregational Church at 12:45 p.m., where there will be guest speakers and music by the Berkshire Hillsman.

West Stockbridge: A ceremony will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the War Memorial in front of Town Hall.

The parade will begin at 9:15 a.m. at Town Hall and end across from the Congregational Church.

"I think right now it is an important time for our community to step up to support immigrants," Berkshire Immigrant Center Executive Director Melissa Canavan told The Berkshire Edge. "We're lucky to live in a region where our immigrant community has, for the most part, been supported in the past, but we need to think about the long-term big picture. We need to think about our neighbors, families, friends, and the people who are making a difference in our community and making it a special place to live."
