Mrs. Matilda S. Mann, 87, of Castle Hill Avenue in Great Barrington, died March 30, 2017 at Fairview Commons Nursing Center in Great Barrington.
Born September 27, 1929 in Woodbury, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Agnes Flitcraft Schwertly. She was educated in local schools and received her Bachelor’s degree from Trenton State University in New Jersey.
Tillie married her husband, the late Edward L. Mann on August 26, 1950 in Glassboro, N.J. In 1967 the couple along with their children moved to the Berkshires where she and her husband owned and operated Camp Half Moon in Monterey.
Mrs. Mann retired in 1988 from Sheffield Center School where she had worked as a teacher for many years.
Mrs. Mann was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. She was a member of the Thursday Morning Club. She was also a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association.
She enjoyed going bowling and playing Bridge.
Tillie is survived by her five children; Edward L. Mann of Lenox, Mass., Paul S. Mann of Broomfield, Colo., Robert J. Mann of Fort Myers, Fla., Gretchen E. Mann of Great Barrington, and Rebecca J. Mann of Pittsfield, Mass. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Alexander, Ana, Katie, Abbey, Lucas, Allyson, Michael, Matthew and Christopher. and three step grandchildren, Ryan, Kaitlin and Jennie.
She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Edward on February 1, 2004 as well as her sister Marjorie.
The funeral service for the late Matilda S. Mann will be held on Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at FINNERTY & STEVENS FUNERAL HOME in Great Barrington, conducted by Rev. Charles VanAusdall, pastor First Congregational Church in Great Barrington. Burial will be held on Saturday, April 8, at the Friendship Cemetery in Monroeville, N.J.
