To the editor:
In 2023, six lanes of I-95 collapsed in Northeast Philadelphia after a massive fire caused by a gasoline spillage. The roadway opened 12 days later. How did this get done?
In a bold, yet thoughtful, move, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro declared an emergency, allowing decisions to be made quickly and without the burden of extensive regulatory requirements.
Massachusetts officials should just Google “Josh Shapiro I-95 repair” for the playbook.
Imagine that, I-95 repaired in 12 days and the Brookside Bridge will take an unknown number of years and $50 million to repair. Come on! Where is common sense in all of this? Why the need for an untold number of state agencies to weigh in and, at each stage, cause more delays?
Let’s ask our state officials to follow Gov. Shapiro’s lead. Or are they too afraid to take responsibility?
