Mary T. Boland, 92, formerly of Housatonic, died Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born in Great Barrington on August 12, 1928, daughter of John and Delia (Broderick) McCormick. She grew up in Stockbridge and was a graduate of the former Williams High School’s class of 1946. Mary worked for many years as a teller at Pittsfield Co-op in Pittsfield.

Her faith and her family were the cornerstones throughout her life. She was a communicant of the former Corpus Christi Church, a member of the Rosary Sodality and the St. Claire of Assisi Fraternity of the Secular Franciscan Order. Widowed at a young age, she raised five daughters on her own. She relied on her faith and her inner strength in this endeavor. She loved family dinners, and enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s school and sporting events. She also loved watching her Red Sox and her PGA golf.
Mary’s husband Robert J. Boland, whom she married at St. Joseph’s Church in Stockbridge on September 1, 1952, predeceased her on December 31, 1965. Mary is survived by four daughters: Mary Beth Pelletier and husband Harold of Northfield, Mass., Maureen Seward and husband William of Great Barrington, Mass., Margi Stalker and husband Norman of Great Barrington, Mass., and Patricia Boland and husband Philip Newey of Stockbridge, Mass.; seven grandchildren: Joelle Bertoli and husband Matthew Collingwood, Shannon Lashoones and husband Justen, Megan Cushwa and husband Adrian, Dylan Seward and wife Emily, Aidan Newey, Daniel Newey, and Jared Stalker; and three great grandchildren: Adalie Collingwood, Silas Lashoones, and Cadence Lashoones. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her brother Fr. Joseph McCormick, her daughter Elaine Bertoli, who died December 27, 2015, and her son-in law Donald Bertoli.
Funeral Services for Mary T. Boland will be held on Monday, March 15 at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, with Reverend William P. Murphy, Pastor officiating. Burial and committal prayers will follow at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Stockbridge. Family will receive friends on Monday, March 15 from 8:30–9:30 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South Street, Great Barrington. Masks and social distancing regulations must be followed. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Mary’s memory may be made to the Corpus Christi Church Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish Building Fund in care of the funeral home.
