Mary A. Murray, 94, of Lee, died peacefully at home Thursday morning with her family by her side. Mary was born July 18, 1924, in Lee, the daughter of Battesta and Anna Grumolato Montini. A lifelong resident, Mary was educated in the Lee schools and graduated from Lee High School, Class of 1942. After high school, Mary went to work at General Electric as a lathe machine operator. Later, Mary was employed by the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles, from where she retired after 30 years of service.
Mary married John W. Murray, Sr., Oct. 12, 1953, at St. Mary’s Church in Lee. Mr. Murray died on their 54th wedding anniversary in 2007. Mrs. Murray enjoyed travelling the world with her husband and family after retirement. She delighted in baking and the joy of a delicious dessert. Most especially, though, Mrs. Murray loved spending her time surrounded with family, and held her granddaughters close to her heart.
Mrs. Murray leaves behind her son, John Murray Jr. and wife Katherine of Suffield, Connecticut; her daughter, Michele Maguire and husband Thomas of Sudbury; and her four granddaughters: Alison, Elizabeth, Kaileigh and Anne. Besides her husband, Mrs. Murray was predeceased by her sister Amelia Zatorski and brother Tulio Montini.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Brian McGrath, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
