Mary Margaret “Dolly” O’Meara, 80, of Lenox, died Friday, November 11 at Berkshire Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born in Pittsfield on September 10, 1942 to the late Francis and Mary Beaulieu Pelkey. She attended Pittsfield High School and was a 1960 graduate. After high school, she attended Wilfred Academy where she earned her degree in hair dressing.
She owned her own salon in Summerland, Calif.
Dolly enjoyed her years living in Maui, Hawaii, also traveling to Europe and the U.K. She was the shipping manager for Island Tan while living in Hawaii. During her career as a hairstylist, she worked in Des Moines, Iowa at Freedom Hair Design; Santa Barbara, Calif. at the John Shaunessy Salon; and in Lenox at Shear Design. She was a competition rower while in Maui as well as a marathon runner. She loved the outdoors and had many friends.
Mrs. O’Meara is survived by her children, Michael Ronald Russell (Patricia) of Tampa, Fla.; Gary Francis Russell (Sheila) of Salem, Ore.; and Raymond Henry Bushey III (Rani) of North Hills, Calif., and her siblings, Frances Anne Fowler (Kenneth) of Lenox and Joel Francis Pelkey of North Miami, Fla. She was the grandmother of LeAnn, Joshua, Alisha, Lali, and Maddie; a great-grandmother of four; and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her sister, Patricia May Murphy, and her brother, James Francis Pelkey.
There will be a memorial service held for Mrs. Mary M. “Dolly” O’Meara at a later date to be determined. Memorial donations in Mary’s memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the Roche Funeral Home, 120 Main Street, Lenox, MA 01240.
