Mary L. Fratalone, 87, of Egremont, trainer of harness horses

She was a den mother for the Egremont Cub Scouts, was an Egremont Historian, and was a caregiver for the elderly in the Egremont area.

Mary L. Fratalone, 87 of Egremont, died Sunday December 18, at home. She was born in Great Barrington on February 14, 1929, to Curtis T. and Louise McCrery Grant. She was a 1948 graduate of Roeliff Jansen Central School.

She was a breeder and trainer of harness horses, trotters and pacers. She raced at Saratoga, Roosevelt, Rockingham, Monticello, Chatham Fair Grounds, Vernon Downs and Green Mountain.

Mary’s husband John J. Fratalone, whom she married on October 28, 1950 predeceased her in 1996.

She was a den mother for the Egremont Cub Scouts, was an Egremont Historian, and was a caregiver for the elderly in the Egremont area. She enjoyed dancing and horseback riding.

Mary leaves a son John, of Hillsdale, N.Y., and a daughter Diane Fratalone, of North Egremont.

A Memorial Service for Mary L. Fratalone who died December 18, will be held at a later date to be announced. In following with Mary’s wishes there are no calling hours. Birches-Roy Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be made through birchesroyfuneralservices.com.

The family will receive family and friends at Birches-Roy Funeral Home on Saturday, January 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. A funeral service will be held immediately after the calling hours followed by a celebration of life at 4 p.m. at Bogies in Great Barrington.
