Mary B. Carlson, 102, died Thursday morning at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, where she had been residing. She was born in Cohoes, N.Y., on January 27, 1922, to the late Albert and Mary Pavelcak.
After high school, Mary attended St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing where she obtained her nursing degree. After completing nursing school, she enlisted in the United States Navy during WWII in the Nurse Corps. She was honorably discharged from active service in 1946 as lieutenant (Junior Grade) and continued on as a reservist until 1950. After being discharged, she enrolled in the University of Connecticut and received her bachelor’s degree in 1950. In that same year, she married Raymond F. Carlson.
Mrs. Carlson was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Lenox. In her free time, she enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, and reading.
Mrs. Carlson is survived by her children, Raymond M. Carlson (Christina) of Port Washington, N.Y., Patricia McCowan (Richard) of Princeton, Mass., Irene Carlson of Ashland, Mass., and Mary Beth Couch of N. Billerica, Mass.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years as well as her four siblings.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 10 a.m., at St. Ann’s Church, with Monsignor John Bonzagni officiating. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery.
