Mark J. Kowalczyk, 66, of Housatonic

Friends warmly remember Marcus as a free spirit who loved to ride his beloved Triumph motorcycle.

Marcus “Mark” John Kowalczyk, 66, a lifelong resident of Housatonic who lived on Prospect Street, died Saturday, March 21, 2020, at home. Marcus was born Dec. 16, 1953, in Great Barrington, son of Alexander and Laura (Poreda) Kowalczyk. He graduated from the Monument Mountain Regional High School class of 1972. He later graduated from Berkshire Community College with an associate degree and worked at the local Rising Mill. Marcus was an excellent baseball player and played on the Rising Mill softball team. Friends warmly remember Marcus as a free spirit who loved to ride his beloved Triumph motorcycle. He loved rock music and was an avid fan of the rock group the Who and Pete Townsend. Marcus was a hard and reliable worker at a local car parts store. Marcus was a very good friend and had a huge heart in caring about others despite his own struggles in life. Marcus was a beautiful human being who showed compassion to people he knew.

It is with deepest regret that a private graveside service for Marcus Kowalczyk was held out of concern for the health and safety of his friends and family due to the threat of coronavirus. Funeral Mass for Robert F. "Bob" Keefner will be held on Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Saint Peter’s Church in Great Barrington with Reverend William P. Murphy Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
