Marilyn P. Granger, 84, of Egremont and Venice, Fla., passed away peacefully on January 15, 2025, at Albany Medical Center. Facing cancer with courage and grace, she leaves behind a legacy of strength, resilience, and determination.

Born in Great Barrington on May 23, 1940, to George L. Peck and Elizabeth Vanderbeek Peck, Marilyn grew up on her family’s dairy farm on the Egremont Plain alongside her brothers, Leland W. Peck and Gregory E. Peck. She graduated from Mt. Everett Regional School in 1958, beginning a life defined by creativity and adventure.

On June 7, 1958, Marilyn married the love of her life, Henry D. Granger. Together, they built a home filled with love, family, close friendships, shared interests, and countless adventures over 62 wonderful years. They raised three children and later enjoyed winters in Florida and RV travels along the East Coast, creating memories that spanned decades.

In her early career, Marilyn worked at Wheeler & Taylor and the Berkshire Courier, where she developed meaningful relationships and valuable skills. She later focused on raising her children, dedicating her time to ensuring the kids’ curfews were met and creating traditions they’d never forget.

Marilyn was a talented seamstress who expressed her creativity through the beautiful outfits she crafted, especially for square dancing. As a founding member of the Down County Squares square dancing club, she found joy in the camaraderie and shared experiences that dancing brought into her life. An excellent cook, she was known for preparing delicious meals and hosting gatherings that brought family and friends together.

Marilyn and Henry were founding members of the Southern Berkshire Sno-dusters snowmobile club. They enjoyed adventurous trail rides with family and friends, exploring the snowy landscapes of the Berkshires and Adirondacks. Marilyn was also a proud member of the Massachusetts Order of the Eastern Star.

Until her illness began to take its toll, she was an adventurous spirit, always ready to go anywhere and try anything with a mischievous twinkle in her smiling eyes.

Marilyn is survived by her three children, Karen Butler (Tom Palivoda), Kevin Granger (Susan), and Kelly Belair (Dan), all of Egremont; six grandchildren, Kristofer, Daniel (Erika), Brandon, Courtney (Sean Guy), Shea (Patrick), and Jimmy (Kate); and eight great-grandchildren, Savannah, Griffin, Jaxson, Carter, Walker, Maeve, Isla, and Peyton. She also leaves her brothers, Leland W. Peck of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Gregory E. Peck (Jeanne) of Egremont; two brothers-in-law, Frank B. Granger (Eileen) of Guilford, Conn., and Richard D. Granger (Persis) of Niskayuna, N.Y.; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends whom she considered extended family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Henry D. Granger and her parents, George L. and Elizabeth Peck.

Marilyn’s family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Eric Bush, M.D.; Sean Mullally, M.D.; and Edmund Hornstein, M.D. for the compassionate care and expertise that greatly enhanced her quality of life during her illness.

A graveside service and celebration of Marilyn’s life will be planned for a later date. Those wishing to honor Marilyn are invited to contribute to the Egremont Fire Department or the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad in care of Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home, 426 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230.
