Marie Weatherhead, 90, passed away on June 10, 2025, at Melbourne Place in Pittsfield. A resident of Lenox since 1966, she was born March 17, 1935, in Brattleboro, Vt., the daughter of Glenn Thomas Hall and Marion Pratt.

Marie Weatherhead.

The family moved to Greenfield, Mass., when Marie was five years old, where she attended local schools, graduating from Greenfield High School in 1953. She worked as a medical secretary for Dr. John Failla in Greenfield until her marriage on June 18, 1955, to Wayne Weatherhead at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield.

Marie volunteered for many years in the Pittsfield school enrichment program and the Recording for the Blind at Lenox Library and was a docent for the Massachusetts Audubon at both Canoe Meadows and Pleasant Valley sanctuaries. She was a charter member of the Lenox Academy Garden Club that was formed in 1975 and also was a member of the Berkshire Botanical Gardens. She was passionate about gardening and flower arranging and was part of a dedicated group of fellow gardeners who volunteered their services in decorating historic buildings and public spaces throughout Lenox during the holidays. Another volunteer effort she was very proud of was her participation in the painting of one of the carousel horses for the Berkshire Carousel project in 2015.

Marie had unbounded creative energy that she applied in many ways, including watercolor painting, flower arranging, sewing, home decor, and entertaining. She was always challenging herself to improve at whatever she put her mind to, forever believing she could do a little better. She was an avid golfer as well, but for her it was more about the camaraderie than the game. She was a social powerhouse who could light up the room, and there was nothing she enjoyed more than being with her family and friends sharing laughs and good times.

A loving and dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, Marie is pre-deceased by her husband Wayne and leaves three children: Pamela Hardy and her husband Alan of Boscawen, N.H.; Lesley Auger and her late husband Matthew of Westbrook, Conn.; and Stephen Weatherhead and his wife Annetta, of Portland, Maine. She also leaves nine grandchildren, Lindsey Tompkins, Brittany Dolce, Meghan Mercier, Taylor Auger, Haley Ford, Sawyer Auger, Madeleine Weatherhead, Benjamin Weatherhead, and Addison Weatherhead, and 10 great grandchildren, Avery, Aiden, and Asher Tompkins; AJ and Jackson Dolce; Grant Harris; Greyson and Pierson Auger; and Thomas and Max Ford.

A memorial service is planned at Roche Funeral Home in Lenox on Saturday, June 28, at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at Mazzeo’s Ristorante in Pittsfield. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on Marie’s behalf to the Alzheimer’s Association. To share memories and stories please visit the website of Roche Funeral Home.
