Marie Irene Davis, 89, of Great Barrington

Marie Irene Davis, 89, of Great Barrington, died Monday, December 1, 2025, at Fairview Commons in Great Barrington. She was born December 11, 1935, in Winsted, Conn., daughter of the late Charles and Ethel (Smith) Hankey. She grew up in Monterey and was educated in Mill River Schools.

Marie worked as a sewer for Cosby’s in Sheffield, sewing athletic bags for 17 years before retiring in 1987 at the age of 62.

Marie’s husband Valentine J. Davis, whom she married on December 6, 1952, predeceased her on January 17, 2020. Marie is survived by one son, Scott Davis and his wife Dawn of Mill River; one daughter, Linda Beckwith and her husband Ernie Jr. of Haines City, Fla.; three grandchildren, Ernie Beckwith III and wife Jodi, Brian Beckwith and wife Amanda, and Amber Wilson and husband Matt; and seven great-grandchildren, Katie, Erica, Leia, Matthew, Sam, Brayden, and Emily. In addition to her parents and husband Valentine Davis, Marie was predeceased by her five brothers, Norman, William, Richard, Jesse, and Irving Hankey, and her two sisters, Viola Vosburgh and Emma Barnum.

The family would like to thank the Fairview Commons Nursing Home staff and HospiceCare in the Berkshires for their excellent care of Marie.
