Margaret E. (Johnston) Dawood, 89, passed away peacefully Friday, March 9, 2018.

Margaret ‘Dolly’ Dawood

Born Jan. 8, 1929, to Elizabeth and John Johnston of Mill River, Dolly served as a secretary for the Hartford Seminary, University of Hartford and Riggs Retirement Home. Her proudest accomplishment was receiving her real estate license at age 69.

Dolly leaves her beloved children: Edward Dawood and partner Frank Kaspar of East Hartford, Connecticut, and Elizabeth Balkan and husband Mark of Manchester, Connecticut. She also leaves her granddaughter, Kathryn Firth, and husband Justin and great-grandson Oliver of Manchester, Connecticut; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Dolly was predeceased by her loving husband of 52 years, Joseph Dawood; six brothers: William, Edward, Francis (Barney), Robert (Bud), Richard (Dick), John (Andrew); and one sister: Mary Johnston. The family would like to thank Vernon Manor for the excellent care and support given to Margaret from the nurses and staff. Also many heartfelt thanks to Robbie Paterson and Mimsie. “Dolly,” as she was affectionately called by most, will be dearly missed.

Services for Margaret Dawood will be held Thursday, March 15, at BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. with a mass to follow at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Sheffield. The burial will be at Mill River Cemetery.
