Lucille Carosone, 100, oldest resident of Sheffield

In her younger years, Lucille enjoyed going on cruises and visits to various casinos, visiting Mohegan Sun for her last time on her 100th birthday.

Lucille Carosone died peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2016, at Fairview Commons Nursing Home and Rehab Center in Great Barrington. Lucille was 100 years old, born on November 14, 1915, and recognized as the oldest resident of Sheffield. She had been a resident of Sheffield for over 50 years and made her home for nearly 20 of those years with Richard and Edith Cappadona. Lucille was the daughter of Francesco and Felicie Sirgaent Gulotta and was the last of the family’s first-generation Americans. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church. Lucille was a homemaker, busily raising and caring for her seven children. In her younger years, she enjoyed going on cruises and visits to various casinos, visiting Mohegan Sun for her last time on her 100th birthday.

Lucille was a beacon of light whose zest for life inspired all those around her. She adored her family and leaves behind one son, James Carosone, and his wife, Vicki, of Nevada, and one daughter, Catherine Guarino, and her husband, Bob, of Staten Island, New York, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Francesco and Felicie, Lucille was also predeceased by her husband, James Carosone, who died April 14, 1986; a son, Victor Carosone; four daughters: Edith Cappadona, Phyllis Impoco, Yvonne Russo, and Joan Wargo; four brothers: Anthony Gulotta, Santi Gulotta, Lenny Gulotta, and Joseph Gulotta; and two sisters: Mary Ward and Anna Gulotta.

Funeral services for Lucille Carosone will be held on Saturday, September 17, at 11 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Valley Church with the Reverend Bruce N. Teague, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Our Lady of the Valley Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy in Lucille’s memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires care of Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
