Louise Piontek, 93, of Housatonic

While at home, Louise did seamstress work for clients and family, and was also a talented cake decorator, making and decorating cakes for various holidays and special occasions including weddings.

Louise Piontek 93, of Housatonic died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Berkshire Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Louise was born Jan. 29, 1925, in Great Barrington, the daughter of the late Leonce A. Sr. and Louise Olivier Roger. She attended local schools and was a 1942 graduate of the former Searles High School. She was also a graduate of Berkshire Business College in Pittsfield. Louise worked in payroll for Carr Engineering in Great Barrington; in the business office at the former Rising Paper Company; as a bookkeeper of her son’s business, Piontek Electrical Contracting; and also as a homemaker at the family home and was a loving caregiver of over 20 years for her late husband during his illness. While at home, Louise did seamstress work for clients and family, and was also a talented cake decorator, making and decorating cakes for various holidays and special occasions including weddings. Louise was a member of the Housatonic Congregational Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She married her husband, Joseph J. Piontek, August 23, 1947, in Chevy Chase, Maryland; he died Jan. 7, 2000.

Louise leaves her son Theodore, with whom she made her home and who was her caregiver; her daughter Claire Hotchkiss and husband Robert of Pittsfield; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Louise was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Leonce A. Roger Jr.; and two stepbrothers, Marcel and William Chevillet.

Funeral services for Louise Piontek will be held Wednesday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m. at the BIRCHES-ROY FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Belle Fox-Martin officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Housatonic. The family will receive friends at a calling hour from 10 to 11 a.m. preceding funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Louise’s memory be made to either the Southern Berkshire Volunteer Ambulance Squad or to the Housatonic Rescue Squad, both in care of the funeral home at 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA. 01230.
