Louis Zink, 80, of Lenox

Louis played steel guitar and dobro with many local bands including the October Mountain Boys, the Stoney Mountain Boys, Cannonball Express, the Country Classics and the Country Travelers.

Louis N. Zink, 80, of Lenox passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2019, at Berkshire Medical Center with his family by his side. Louis was born Aug. 30, 1938, in Pittsfield to the late Nelson C. and Edna G. Williams Zink. He attended Lenox schools. After high school, Louis worked at Beloit Jones as a shipping supervisor until his retirement in 2000.

Louis enjoyed carpentry, landscaping, and performing country and bluegrass music. Louis played steel guitar and dobro with many local bands including the October Mountain Boys, the Stoney Mountain Boys, Cannonball Express, the Country Classics and the Country Travelers. Mr. Zink was married March 23, 1991, to the former Laura L. Chaffee.

Besides his wife, Laura, at home, he is survived by his six children: Laurie Basinait of Copake, New York, Stephen Zink of New Marlborough, Nelson Zink of Canaan, Connecticut, Cathy Percy (Tony) of New Marlborough, Randy Girard (Jessica) of South Carolina, and Mark Zink (Nicole) of Pittsfield; five grandchildren: Cassandra Lane, Stephen Zink Jr., Alexis Basinait, Alice-May Zink, and Jacob and Jaxson Girard; two great-grandchildren: Emma and Colin Lane; siblings Ronald Zink of Dalton, Jerome Zink (Gloria) of Berlin, New York, Sandra Nolan (Michael) of Hinsdale, and Susan Morris (David) of Lee; and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Louis was predeceased by sister Sally and grandson Corey Vincent.

In keeping with Louis’ wishes, there will be no calling hours. There will be a celebration of his life Sunday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. at Z Barn, 36 North Main St., Berlin, New York.
