Louis J. Gardella, 89, of Great Barrington died Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield. Louis was born in Great Barrington on October 25, 1933, son of Charles E. and Rose (Guarnieri) Gardella. He was a graduate of the former Searles High School class of 1951.
After High School Louis proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Louis worked for 31 years as a letter carrier for the Great Barrington Post Office, retiring in July of 1994. Louis was a member of the Alford Pitch League where he played for over 40 years. He loved gardening and landscaping his property which was always meticulous.
Louis is survived by his wife, Marjory A. (Riiska) Gardella, whom he married on August 11, 1962; his son, Michael Gardella and wife Suzanne; his daughter, Katrina Hans and husband Charles; his brother, Richard J. Gardella; and his dog, Zoey. Louis was predeceased by his brother, Charles Gardella, in 1998 and his sister, Norma Palmer.
A graveside service for Louis J. Gardella will be held on Thursday, January 19 at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Peter’s Cemetery in Great Barrington. Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 19 from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. Due to COVID concerns, the family requests that masks be worn. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Louis’ memory may be made to the Great Barrington Police Department in care of the funeral home. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later time.
